Lavender and lace

The other day I went browsing, possibly to kill time, or what’s more likely: to keep awake. I came across a blog called Lili’s Little Fairies. Wow! there are many fantastic cards there; so much talent, so much inspiration all in one spot! The challenges look like a lot of fun, and I’d have yet another excuse to use my favourite stamps. After thinking about it for a while, and making a couple of cards I was really pleased with (which I have yet to post here), I thought I will give it ago.

So here is my entry in the Lavender and Lace challenge:

Lavender and laceLavender and lace. It is a great combination, it simply couldn’t go wrong. That didn’t make it any easier though, but I knew instantly who the card would be for: my nan on her 91st birthday! She loves colour and the lace was picked specifically with her mind. She will be thrilled and then wonder how to make it, getting her threads out, only to put them back and mutter she doesn’t have time, heh. She is awesome. But I digress, let’s get back on the card track.

Obviously, after I decided on the recipient, the lace was chosen first. Then I grabbed the paper knowing it would be perfect. And then I sat staring at it long enough to come up with something. The choice of stamp was also reasonably easy, I love this stamp. It is called Fairies – on tiptoe and is from Lili of the Valley (of course). I used some of my new copics this time, together with old ones. For the purples I used BV000, BV00, BV2 and V12. Sadly my new greens didn’t arrive in time, I guess they’ll get here today or tomorrow, together with one of my new stamps so I can finally make the baby card I’ve planned on for a while!

A Martha Stuart puncher was used around the edge of the stamped paper, distressed with pink and blue (as I don’t have purple). A golden ribbon on top to break the huge bit of lace a bit, a silvery flower, a rose and some silver pearls were added to complete the look.

For the inside I decided to copy the plainer parts of the front, avoiding the rose, bow, and silver ornaments. Instead I added a little tag to the top left, with the same distressed edge as the punched one. Then I drew an edge around it. The distressed edges are clearer inside, and I think the pinks and blue worked really quite well.

This is one of my favourites so far, competing with the others I’ve made the past week. Hopefully I’ll have time to make a couple more before I go on holiday, where a visit to the craft show in Bluewater is in order! I look forward to that!

I will then also be able to take proper photos of the cards again. This old camera doesn’t seem to display the colours properly, sadly. I will take new photos of this (and possibly some of the other cards I’ll post the next few days) and update the blog photos in a couple of weeks.
