31. Happy New Year, and how dots make a difference

First off I would like to wish you all a Happy New Year! Go easy on the bubbles with the children around, and take a moment to remember all the good things that happened to you the past year before fretting over a new one. I hope the new year will bring you creative moments and great memories that last a lifetime!

Today I have a simple card I was challenged to do. Well, two, actually. It seems fitting to add today, the last day of the year. It is definitely the day to get the bling on! The challenge I was given, by a fellow Copic Marker Norge design team member, Kjersti B., was to make something metallic. I decided I should try colouring in metallic, and for some reason picked an image with loads of folds in the dress and funky hair. Why not doubling the challenge, right? Oh, and I asked if I should make it sparkle or not, so when she let me choose I decided to do both…

Anyway, here are the finished cards. I’ve used glittery paper around the image on the non-sparkly one, but kept it without embellishments etc. I think the colouring turned out alright as well. It wasn’t too difficult colouring up something metallic. I’ve used an image from Make it Crafty, called Girl with Glass Slipper.

So what about the glittery one? Well, I used the exact same colours for the dress, but I added a whole bunch of dots everywhere. It really sparkles, doesn’t it?! Throwing a lot of dots in the mix can really transform a dress!

Copics used: (silver) C1, C3, C5, C7, C9, (hair) E08, E18, E19, E49, E97, (skin) E000, E00, E04, E11, E21, (purple on card 1) V12, V15, V17, 100, (red on card 2) R22, R59, R89, W9 + two different white pens.

Curly Victorian Girl

It is Friday and time for a new challenge at Art by Mi Ran’s facebook group. Anything goes is always great because you can choose whichever of Mi Ran’s awesome images to use for it! I used Victoria for this card, mostly to have a real good go at those curls! I wanted it to stand out properly so I cropped the image to the upper half of the body only. Sadly the darker brown markers were a bit sticky. Silly things need cleaning ALL the time!!

So yeah, I coloured it in with copics, you can find the colours at the bottom of the page. I used paper from Pion, Inkido and First Edition Paper, and I made the blue background myself. I do regret using the blue frame around the image. I blame a long week at work on that one… Oh well! The white and pink circles are iCandy by Craftwork Cards, the flowers are by Wild Orchid Crafts, The Hobby House and Live and Love Crafts. I added a feather, but it’s not so visible in the photo. The butterlies are Noor Design.

Butterfly princess

It is time for another card for the Mi Ran progressive challenges at their Facebook group. I love this image! It is so very pretty, don’t you think?! I couldn’t wait to get it coloured and I can now finally add my card here! You can get the image from Mi Ran’s Etsy shop. It will be available in the shop next month and is called Rora and Butterfly. If you want it now, just join in the FB challenge!

I am so pleased how it turned out, the colouring, the layout, everything! It is definitely my new favourite Mi Ran image and I am so happy with how it all came together. I used colours I’ve rarely used when colouring, and darker papers than usual, they are from Fab Scraps Paper. I’ve roughened up the edges, added lace from Live and Love Crafts, distresed the edges with green and purple, used Noor Design leaves in green and purple, Martha Stewart butterflies with rows of pearls. Oh and lots of flowers from Wild Orchid Crafts, obviously.

Green goth maiden

Finally weekend. My sinuses are none too happy so I suppose I will be spending most of the weekend with a bunged up head… Oh well, I guess I’ll get some crafting done, eh!

This card was made for a challenge at Kit and Clowder in their facebook group. You got this gorgeous free digital image by Ching-Chou Kuik and were to colour it in lilac and teal inspired tones. Look at all the butterflies it’s got! Yey! I think this is the first time I have ventured into the land of unusual hair colours. I coloured it all in with copics using mostly BG70s and BV0s for the teal and lilac shades. At the end I added some liquid pearls to the butterflies.

The papers are by Lili of the Valley and this pad fit the colours I used in the colouring perfectly. I have used a bunch of flowers and big pearls from Wild Orchid Crafts and made butterflies with some Noor Design dies. At the end I added a pearl row to give the butterflies a body, and gold glitter to the end of the wings so they tied in better with the ones I coloured in.

April showers

April already. That means another challenge is on its way at The Hobby House! The theme for this month’s challenge is Anything Goes where you have to use one of the new toppers. There are loads of sweet new toppers available at their shop. Can’t wait to get my hands on some of these!

For my inspirational post this time I have used one of the Wee Stamps toppers from The Hobby House. The ribbon, pearls and roses are also from there. I have used paper from First Edition Paper, a Martha Stewart puncher for the leaves and Tim Holtz liquid pearls for the rain effect.
