Country bliss

Mother’s day is coming up, or so I’ve heard. Our mother’s day was a month ago so it’s already been and gone. I’ve seen a lot of challenges with a mother’s day theme, so I thought I would enter. Conveniently, mom’s birthday was last week, and of course she had to have a card! I wanted to make her something different and decided on a country themed card with red. Red was a must for this card. Here is what I came up with:

I had ordered tulips from Wild Orchid Crafts specifically for this card, red ones. Mom loves tulips and the colour red. So that was my starting point. A while ago, a few months, in fact, I bought a lovely white paper with roses on. It worked great for this card and let me use both reds and greens. The back of the paper had a lovely plaid pattern I decided to use also. Framing the various elements with plain green and red card helped add a bit more colour to the card.

The stamp I decided on is (as usual) from Lili of the Valley. This is a stamp I’ve had for a while, but not coloured before. A good friend of mine picked it out, which makes it special to me. It would work great on a card for mom, especially as I could colour it in primarily reds and greens. I used my copics to colour it, and I am pleased with how it came out. It is such a cute stamp!

Not long ago I purchased a checkered red and white ribbon with mom’s card in mind, and it worked wonders on highlighting the country theme, I think. I tied a pretty little bow on it and added flowers above. First a bunch of tulips and then filled in with roses and some lovely white flowers. All from Wild Orchid Crafts. The inside is decorated similarly to the front, without the ribbon and flowers. And most importantly, mom loved it!

This card has been entered into the following challenges:

Lili of the ValleyΒ  – Ideas to Inspire: National craft month
Allsorts – Say it with flowers
Crafts 4 Eternity – #62 Special mum
Totally Stampalicious – A Bouquet of Flowers
Papertake Weekly – For the girls.. or mum
