Shabby Chic

I have never tried it before, the shabby chic style, but I’ve seen so many beautiful cards with the style that I figured now was a good time to give it a go. There is nothing like a good dose of inspiration, and it is Fleur who has made me want to try this style. Her cards are absolutely gorgeous; take a look if you haven’t already! Always the same soft wonderful colours. Here is my take on a shabby chic card:

As soon as I started I realised I had a major problem; I have no vintage colour copics! None! It would be too early to give up before I’d even started. Grabbing some paler pinks and browns I started colouring as normal. I chose the super cute wee birthday fairy looking stamp from Lili of the Valley, because I simply haven’t used it much. After colouring it all in, I went over with a pale grey copic, colouring it all in again, to age it up a bit. Thankfully it worked well enough.

The papers I chose are from a Tim Holtz pad. I think it’s called idea-ology; vintage. A pink, blue and brown paper pad. I used a Victorian velvet distress ink around the edge of the card blank from back2basic, as well as around the stamped image. I also went over the image carefully with the distress ink. To frame various elements I used grey card with texture. Pearls were added to the top corners of the stamped image area as well as bottom left corner of the card. At the end I added a lace bow and some lovely roses from Wild Orchid Crafts. I am really pleased with how it turned out and plan to try this style a bit more.
