Girly girl

Who would have thought making cards would be so much fun?! It has been a learning curve, quite a steep one. When I first starting purchasing things to make cards with in August I hadn’t really thought much about what I was getting myself into, or how much money I would spend. Now, my wallet many, many pounds lighter, I am very happy I just went with the random idea it was at the time. I am having a blast. It is great having an excuse to sit and colour in images and merely decorate cards, one by one. Of course it takes time, but it’s worth it. Today’s card is pink, purple and possibly my best one yet. Let’s take a closer look!

I picked the colour scheme first. Purple and pink. A lady at work requested a card made for her grand daughter’s fourth birthday a while ago. She was very early asking as the birthday isn’t for another couple of months yet. The unspecific requirement of anything with pink will be great made it a difficult starting point, but after showing her a card the other week I got an idea what she liked, so I wanted to make something in pinks and purples to see if it was what she was after. Besides, I love pinks and purples! So those were the colours I picked for this.

The plain blank scalloped back2basics card from Craftwork Cards is great. It can be used for nearly any type of card and colours wonderfully with distress ink. I didn’t distress this one, however, as I wanted it white. I picked out a shade of purple close to mauve from my new First Editions Papers pad. Meh, who am I kidding… from one of my new pads… The pink was from my previous purchase and the silver seemed to work wonderfully as it’s a shiny. What four year old girl won’t love a bit of shine on her card?

After glueing the papers together I went on to colouring the pretty angel with flowers from Lili of the Valley (I need to expand my stamp horizon, don’t I?), using my copics. She is adorable! Pinks and purples were the obvious choices, with a dash of silvery sparkles on the wings. I then got the insane idea of cutting her out to make her stand out from the card itself. It was fiddly work, but it turned out well. It’s not the thing I will do often, though!

I grabbed a bunch of my newly arrived roses from Wild Orchid Crafts and added pink and purple ones to form a vertical border before making the tag. My favourite flowers to use on cards for sure. To make the tag I used a stamp from Kreativ Hobby with my new dew drop memento ink, coloured it pink and put it on a silver layer to create the border. I then rolled the corner in to make it stand out a bit more. Finally I added four pink pearls to the top right corner. And voila! Here is the finished card:
