Smell the flowers

Time sure does fly at this time of year. The card in this post was made at the start of the month and I have only just now had time to write this post. There are a few more card posts to follow next weeks also.

I had many flowers made up using the floral punches, so I wanted to make a card where I could use one. To keep with the flowery theme, I wanted to use a floral stamp as well. The obvious choice of stamp was the girl sat in a bed of flowers. It is a Sarah Kay stamp by Stampavie. As this is a stamp I’d recently coloured for a different card, I wanted to make this look different. The previous one was very colourful, so this time I tried to stick to only a few colour palettes. I’m very pleased with the result.

Additionally I wanted the card to be fairly plain and leave the stamp as the main design element.  The greens and pinks were then obvious colour choices.

I reused some of the elements from the front and decorated the inside like this:

Autumn

While searching for a tool to make tiny circles with I got somewhat side tracked and ended up purchasing not one, not two, but three floral punches! I’ve been looking at getting some since I started with scrapping, so as soon as the order arrived I started punching out flowers aimlessly. Today I’ve finally had a bit more time, and got some random inspiration to make a card. Last week I was on two smaller hiking trips and loved the colours surrounding me. That is where I’ve gotten the inspiration for this card.

Feeling completely zombied this morning I started colouring a stamp image, one of my favourite motives. The mouse on a daisy, a Tina Wenke image by Stampavie. Once that was done the rest went very quickly. I picked yellows and greens for the paper and added some orange with the punched flowers. Of course I had to use punched flowers on the first card!

I tried to get the inside to match the front somewhat, and I am really pleased with how the whole card turned out. This time I even remembered to take the photo before writing on it!

autumn, middle

It’s nearly a month and a half since I made the last (and first!) cards and I am surprised how easy it was to make this. Although, I am certain that purchasing the cutter, which cuts both straight and scalloped edges helped immensely!

Bookmark – corner

I wanted to make a bookmark to go with a card I made for my other half’s lil cousin who recently broke her arm. If it had been me breaking my arm as a kid I’d have been reading, anyway. Besides, one can never have too many books or bookmarks! Right?

So I went to my mates at Google and wondered if they had any good inspirational bookmarks for me. And boy did I find a good one. I knew the second I saw it that I had found what I was looking for. Wee monsters for munching your pages! They are so adorable! Have a look here for the brilliant tutorial I found!

However, my first attempt didn’t turn out like a proper monster, as I’ve yet to figure out a good way to do the eyes properly. My circle cutter doesn’t make circles small enough. So while I ponder how to do the eyes on the monstermarks, here is my ‘normal’ corner bookmark. This is the front:

This is how the back looks:

Here you can see how it looks on a page:

I love it! It sits really nice on the corner of the page and is not sticking out to get in the way. I’m going to make several for myself.

Pink and flowery

Although made around the same time as the cards posted thus far, this is the card I started on last. I wanted something plain, but still colourful and girly. The decision fell on pink and green patterned paper with some dark red to get some contrasts in.

The stamp was chosen first, because this was first stamp I chose when I purchased the first lot, and I hadn’t used it on anything yet! I love the Sarah Kay stamps and this one is called Juliet in the Field of Nasturtiums. Stampavie makes them. It did take a while to colour, but I’m very pleased with the end result.

It is only the front of the card that’s been decorated, the inside was slightly borded by flowers on the patterned paper so I decided to leave that as it was.

girl with flowers

This is one of my favourite cards and I reckon I’ll make quite a few with similar style to this one.

Teddy with flowers

This is another birthday card, but this time the stamp image was chosen first. I love the teddy holding all the flowers, with the little frame. After colouring it in, I decided on what colours I wanted to use on the cards to go with – a little backwards, I know. I’m quite pleased with how the colouring turned out.

The punched border was decided on early, I hadn’t used it on any cards I’d made thus far, not the corner punch anyway. It was a little tricky to get it to even out, as I hadn’t looked to see whether it came with suggested measurements. I got it lined up and working anyway. It worked well with the textured paper.

To get it all to tie together, I tried to hand draw a flower border around the greeting area. I wish I’d had a thinner pen to do it with, but it turned out alright, I think.

Card viewed from the front

I quite like this card design. I got the idea for it after browsing through many cards online. It is great how it folds flat, but can stand up on display like this, and it was so easy to make! The pearls were used for both decorative and practical reasons; they are great for holding the card from sliding while stood on display!

I quite like this card!
