I had to make another birthday card before Christmas as well. It was for a lady celebrating her 50th birthday, so I wanted to make a handmade card for her as I feel they are so much nicer to get, especially on a special occasion like that. As it was only a couple of days until Christmas I didn’t sit forever pondering what to do, I simply decided to follow the theme from the birthday card I’d made the night before.

Summery birthday
As much as I enjoy making Christmas cards, it was a nice break making some birthday cards in the days running up to Christmas. As the two birthday celebrants don’t know each other, I decided to go with my idea of making paired cards for this also! It really is a lot quicker to just make two similar cards than two completely different ones!
Earthly coloured birthday
Well, the plan to post several of the cards I’ve made didn’t go very well, did it?
When I posted, three weeks ago, things were slowing down and I was going to have more time to study – which meant I could try to update the blog more often also. As you might have guessed, that didn’t happen and I got even busier than I had been. It hasn’t all been ‘bad busy’ though, I’ve also had a week holiday! Despite being busier than ever, I have managed to make quite a few Christmas cards the past few weeks, so I am aiming to get them up over the course of the next month. Posting here had to be down prioritised, however…
This card was made in early October, for my cousin’s 40th birthday. I was quite excited to finally make a card for my side of the family, instead of my boyfriend’s half! My cousin appears to like earthly colours and that is what I decided to go with here. As you may have guessed from the older posts, I am quite fond of the sandy brown together with darker shades of red. The punched flowers also had to make its appearance! Apart from that I added a nice sandy looking paper and had much fun matching in the colours of the stamp. The stamp is called Louis with flowers and is by Wild Rose Studio.
The middle was equally easy to make. The duck stamp had to be used as it was a nice subtle way of added the dreaded four-nil number. Apart from that I stuck with the theme and colours from the front. The Norwegian written on there translates to ‘the older you get, the more your cake looks like a torch parade’. It is something my cousin would find quite funny.
I do like this card and feel I am progressing and making better ones each time which is a great motivator.
Teddy with flowers
This is another birthday card, but this time the stamp image was chosen first. I love the teddy holding all the flowers, with the little frame. After colouring it in, I decided on what colours I wanted to use on the cards to go with – a little backwards, I know. I’m quite pleased with how the colouring turned out.
The punched border was decided on early, I hadn’t used it on any cards I’d made thus far, not the corner punch anyway. It was a little tricky to get it to even out, as I hadn’t looked to see whether it came with suggested measurements. I got it lined up and working anyway. It worked well with the textured paper.
To get it all to tie together, I tried to hand draw a flower border around the greeting area. I wish I’d had a thinner pen to do it with, but it turned out alright, I think.
I quite like this card design. I got the idea for it after browsing through many cards online. It is great how it folds flat, but can stand up on display like this, and it was so easy to make! The pearls were used for both decorative and practical reasons; they are great for holding the card from sliding while stood on display!
I quite like this card!
Teddy card
The folding idea for this card came from various websites. Most of them hard the card stood the other way around. However, that wouldn’t fit with the paper I had bought specifically for this birthday.
I found it challenging to colour the teddy bear stamp. It is called Louis with flowers and is from Wild Rose Studio. After glancing at a few tutorials on using copic markers, I came up with a result I am fairly pleased with. There were some other teddies I think came out better, but that may be more down to colour choices than the actual colouring. I am pleased with the rest of the colouring, though. The balloons were from a different stamp set and didn’t come with the teddy bear.
The first fold holds my greeting and specifically chosen paper. As you can see it is pretty large when unfolded. Click to view the larger size.
This is another card which can be folded open twice, even though the last unfold (in this card, at least) doesn’t hide much. I merely made the inside match the outside of the fold, but used different words on the text.
